A huge thank you to all of those who supported me with endless encouragement and inspiration while on my journey to the New York City Marathon! This year I was able to finish the race in 4 hours 18 minutes and 47 seconds. Next year, in 2019 I hope to improve upon this time while raising funds again this year for FFF’s Special 10 year Anniversary. For those of you who are new to this site and Freedom From Fistula, I’d like to tell you a little bit about what it is we do and the women we help every day.

Freedom From Fistula is a maternal health organization that focuses on the prevention and eradication of Obstetric Fistula on the continent of Africa, where 2 million women suffer from fistula every day. Fistula is a medical condition caused by prolonged, obstructed childbirth and lack of access to maternity care. Left incontinent, women are often condemned to a life of solitude and exclusion. Our charity helps these women and girls by providing free surgeries to heal their ﬁstulas and free maternity care to prevent ﬁstulas and ensure safe childbirth in Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi and Sierra Leone.

FFF has assisted over 3,000 women and girls every year and continues to expand its programs and aid in the communities it serves. Click here to read more about FFF. Since first being involved with FFF, I was taken with the plight of the women and girls needlessly suffering from fistula. I couldn't believe something so preventable and treatable could be so common. To raise some much needed funds for the women and girls in Africa I decided to run in the New York City Marathon. I will be doing the same again this year, during FFF’s 10 year anniversary, and hope to make this year’s race to the finish line an even bigger event!
